Why Contests?
They are fun and enable us to utilize the talent of developers worlwide! TeleFlow Server can be used to serve or manage information for nearly any device or information source, so we've decided to take recognize the creativity within our own TeleFlow community while expanding the use of TeleFlow in the market.
Who Can Partake?
Everyone! Our contests are open to all everyone in the world, except employees and contractor's of the sponsor. However, you will probably need to write in basic English or Spanish in order for us to communicate.
What Would a Typical Contest Involve?
teleflow.org has identified a number of contests that would utilize TeleFlow Open Source. Some of these projects would result in a useful product or addition, and others will be just for fun. Each one may, or may not involve telecommunications; however, most contests will involve software development skills. In order to ensure contests can be entered by everyone, some contests can be won by simply coming up with an idea to solve a problem, and then expressing it in written language.
What Skills Are Required?
There are a number of skills that would be most applicable to these contests. They include, but are not necessarily limited to: C++, PHP, HTML/CSS, TeleFlow and inventiveness.
Contest Sign Up
You must have registered in the contest registration section. When a new contest starts, we will email you with the details. At that time, we will provide the source code so that everyone can become familiar with it, and hopefully share with each other the best way to compile it etc. We will also provide prize information.
Team Sign Up
The registration page allows your to create your "team". A team may include yourself and up to 12 other people. Your team may include people who work together, or who work separately. When you register yourself, and your team, you can choose a team name, and eventually add a logo through an administration section (coming soon).
We highly recommend signing up several people when you create you team, as you may be able to increase the prize amounts paid if a team member wins.
Contest Types
There are two types of contests:
Deadline Contests
Deadline Contests are contests that count up until the dollar amount reaches $X. Once the predefined amount is reached, all entires at that time are reviewed, and the best idea or submission is chosen. If two identical submissions are made, the first one delivered according to the terms of the agreement is won. The amount will be defined at the start of the contest, and will generally run from anywhere from five to 25 days. Should a team member of yours be selected, you, the team leader will receive a 30% of the prize amount as a bonus.
Progressive Contests
Progressive contests will keep on counting up until a cap is met. These contests will start with a base, and then count up by $X dollars a day until a submission which meets the specifications and requirements of the contest is met. The first person to submit the files and documents which comprise the winning entry will be awarded the amount of the prize at the time of submission. Should member of your team be selected, you, the team leader will receive 50% of the prize amount as a bonus. (Example: prize is $1,000 - you recieve $500 and your team member recieves the $1,000 prize)
Winning a Contest
Winning a contest requires that you meet the specifications posted of that contest, and submit the files or documents that comprise the entry, according to the terms of that contest.
Notification
Winners of the contest will be notified by the email address they used to submit with. At the same time, the name and optional website of the winner will be posted in the contest page and related forums.
Acceptance
All works submitted will be assigned to the sponsor, and will become sole property of the sponsor in for possible inclusion within future releases of related products.
Verification
All submitted works must be verified before awards are paid. Verification may include any process of ensuring submissions are valid and constitute original work.
Payments
Winning a contest will result in one or two payments. The winner of the prize will be the person who submits the prize according to the terms of that contest. A second payment may be awarded if there is a team leader involved. In both cases, prizes and bonuses will be paid directly to those persons by means of PayPal, direct bank deposit, money order or certified check. Payments will be made within 30 days of the contest's end. It will be the sponsor's discretion on how payment is to be made if the winner opts out of PayPal or deposit.
Other Advantages of Winning
Winners will be included in voting for product direction, and possibly included in future opportunities.
Considerations
Entry Submission
Entries and other submitted material become the property of the sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. The sponsor, and those working for the sponsor or on the behalf of sponsor, will not be responsible for lost, late, misdirected, damaged, or postage due mail or email and for Internet, computer hardware and software, phone, and other technical errors, malfunctions and delays. In the event of a dispute concerning who submitted an email entry, the entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized holder of the email account from which the entry is made. The "authorized account holder" is the natural person to whom an email address is assigned by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address.
Cancellation
The sponsor reserves the right to modify or cancel all or any portions of a contest because of technical errors or malfunctions, viruses, hackers, or for other reasons that corrupt the contest in any manner. The sponsor also reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who fails to comply with these official rules, who attempts to enter the contest in any manner or through any means other than as described in these official rules, or who attempts to disrupt the contest or to circumvent any of these official rules.
Privacy Policy
The information that you provide in connection with the contests may be used for the sponsor's internal purposes and to send you details of new products and contests, but it will not be provided to third parties, except as necessary for the administration of the contests or as required by law or legal process.
Ownership
All submissions must constitute original work, and not be copies of existing solutions. Submissions may, except where specified, include works of others so long as the included components are licensed by GPL or compatible license. Due to the nature of many of the contests, works may, at the discretion of the sponsor, be assigned to the sponsor in order to be included in future releases of products which incorporate the submissions.
Release
Entrants agree to release and hold harmless the sponsors, their affiliates and subsidiaries, and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, successors, and assigns, from any damage, injury, death, loss, or other liability that may arise from entrant's participation in the contest or the awarding, acceptance, use, or misuse of any prize. All entrants agree that Canadian law shall apply exclusively to the contests and that any dispute with respect to the contests shall be resolved in the courts located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Void
These contests are void where prohibited.
